Swimming at the billabong
Swimming at the billabong: When the German couple staying at my B&B asked if I wanted to join them for a swim at their favourite waterhole, I gladly jumped in the car. Not far from Mossman Gorge is an ultra expensive rainforest retreat lodge called Silky Oaks that is also situated within the Daintree National Park. Since it's on national park property the "swank lodge billabong" is actually a free public beach (though there aren't any signs to say that). Lodge smodge.

With a water temperature of about 17 degrees, we were guaranteed that no southern hemispherer would step a toe in it. And indeed, no one did. Plus, the 'lodgies' were probably too busy getting Daintree mud facials and eucalyptus detox treatments. Good for them.

The water was so eerily clear that it looked about ankle deep - and yet it was over my head! Ah, Ottawa needs more billabongs.

--------

I am still in Toronto today and attending a friend's bridal tea. I'm wearing a fancy hat and white gloves. The things you do for your friends... : )

Loving the pictures so far -- keep 'em coming! But where's the big red rock? ;)

We went swimming in some crystal clear (and chilly) waters in Queensland also -- just stunning.

The red rock is about a week away - there are still daintree pics and roos to post... patience grasshoppers. Also coming up: swagmen and Winton (home of Waltzing Matilda)
